On the authority of Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, from Rabi'ah ibn Yazid, from Abu Idris al-Khawlani, from Abu Dharr Jundub ibn Junadah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace be upon him), in what he narrates from Allah, the Blessed and Most High, who said: "O My servants, I have forbidden injustice for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not wrong one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except those whom I have guided, so seek guidance from Me and I shall guide you. O My servants, all of you are hungry except those whom I have fed, so seek food from Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except those whom I have clothed, so seek clothing from Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness from Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will never be able to harm Me so as to cause Me harm, and you will never be able to benefit Me so as to bring Me benefit. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the humans among you and the jinn among you, to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one among you, that would not increase My dominion in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the humans among you and the jinn among you, to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one among you, that would not decrease My dominion in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the humans among you and the jinn among you, to stand in one plain and make a request of Me, and were I to give every person what he requested, that would not diminish what I have any more than a needle diminishes the sea when dipped into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I record for you and then recompense you for. So whoever finds good, let him praise Allah; and whoever finds other than that, let him blame no one but himself." Sa'id said: Abu Idris, whenever he narrated this hadith, would fall to his knees. Narrated by Muslim.

"I have forbidden injustice for Myself": Meaning it does not proceed from Me, for it is contrary to Allah's perfection and justice. "Injustice" (al-dhulm): Placing something where it does not belong; acting without right. "Astray" (dall): Heedless of the divine laws. "I have guided" (hadaytuh): I directed him to what the Messengers brought and granted him success in following it. "Seek guidance from Me" (istahduni): Ask Me for guidance. "One plain" (sa'id wahid): A single tract of land; the original meaning of sa'id is the surface of the earth. "A needle" (al-mikhyat): A sewing needle. "I record for you" (uhsiha lakum): I keep precise account of them through My knowledge and My guardian angels. "I recompense you for them" (uwaffikum iyyaha): I give you their full recompense in the Hereafter.

The prohibition of injustice, and that Allah has forbidden it for Himself due to His perfect justice. The prohibition of a person wronging his brother by violating his wealth, honor, or person. The legitimacy of supplicating for guidance, for guidance is in the hand of Allah the Most High. The legitimacy of seeking provision, for all creatures are servants of Allah who possess nothing for themselves, and their provision is in the hand of Allah who provides for whomever He wills — and this does not negate taking the apparent means. The legitimacy of seeking forgiveness frequently and being sincere in repentance, for Allah forgives all sins when the intention is genuine and the inner state is upright. The obligation to single out Allah alone for all types of worship — including asking, supplicating, seeking aid, and the like. Allah the Most High is free of need from His servants; obedience does not benefit Him just as disobedience does not harm Him. All creation combined cannot harm Allah or benefit Him; rather, He is the One who benefits and harms, glorified be He. Obedience does not add anything to the dominion of Allah. The children of Adam are prone to sin — they err by night and by day.
