عنْ أَنَس رضي اللّهُ عنه قالَ: «إِنَّكُمْ لَتَعْملُونَ أَعْمَالًا هِيَ أَدقُّ في أَعْيُنِكُمْ مِنَ الشَّعْرِ، كُنَّا نَعُدُّهَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رسولِ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم مِنَ الْمُوِبقاتِ» رواه البخاري.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You do deeds which are as insignificant in your eyes as a strand of hair, yet we used to count them during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) among the destructive sins." Narrated by al-Bukhari.

لتعملون أعمالًا: ذنوبًا ومخالفات. أدق في أعينكم: أي في نظركم واعتقادكم. من الشّعْر: لشدة تحقيرها. الْمُوبِقَات: الْمُهْلِكَات والكبائر.
Lata'maluna a'malan: meaning sins and transgressions. Adaqq fi a'yunikum: meaning in your view and estimation. Min al-sha'r: due to how greatly they are belittled. Al-Mubiqat: the destructive sins and major offenses.

الاستخفاف بالذنب يدل على قلة الخشية من اللّه تعالى، على العكس من استعظامه، فإنّه يدل على كمال الخشية وعظيم المراقبة للّه تعالى. أعلم الناس باللّه تعالى بعد الأنبياء وأكملهم ورعًا وأشدهم خشية هم أصحاب رسول اللّه صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم، فلقد كانوا يرون الأمور التي استهونها غيرُهم مهلكات، لعِظَم شهودهم جلال اللّه وكمال معرفتهم له. من غلبت عليه الغفلة فإنّه لم يعد يبالي، بل لربما أبغض من نصحه ونفر منه، ويرى أن ناصحه عدو له.
Taking sins lightly indicates a lack of fear of Allah the Exalted, whereas regarding them as serious indicates the perfection of fear and the greatness of one's watchfulness before Allah. The most knowledgeable of people about Allah the Exalted after the prophets, and the most complete in scrupulousness and the most intense in their fear of Allah, are the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). They would consider matters that others deemed insignificant to be destructive, due to the greatness of their awareness of Allah's majesty and the completeness of their knowledge of Him. Whoever is overcome by heedlessness no longer cares; indeed, he may even despise the one who advises him and flee from him, considering his advisor to be an enemy.
