عن أبي مُوسى عَبد اللّهِ بنِ قَيْسٍ الأَشْعَرِيِّ رضِي اللّه عنه، عن النَّبِيِّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم قَالَ: «إِنَّ اللّهَ تَعَالَى يبْسُطُ يدَهُ بِاللَّيْلِ لِيتُوبَ مُسيءُ النَّهَارِ، وَيبْسُطُ يَدهُ بالنَّهَارِ ليَتُوبَ مُسِيءُ اللَّيْلِ حتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِن مغْرِبِها». رواه مسلم.
Abu Musa 'Abdullah ibn Qays al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah the Most High extends His hand at night so that the sinner of the day may repent, and extends His hand during the day so that the sinner of the night may repent, until the sun rises from the west." يبسط يده: اليد في لغة العرب معناها معلوم، وإثبات صفة اليد لله تعالى يكون على الوجه الذي يليق بجلاله وعظمته، فالكيف مجهول لنا، والإيمان بها واجب.
"Extends His hand" (yabsutu yadahu): The word "hand" (yad) in the Arabic language has a known meaning. Affirming the attribute of the hand for Allah the Most High is done in a manner befitting His majesty and greatness — its exact nature (kayf) is unknown to us, and belief in it is obligatory.

الحثّ على المسارعة في التوبة إذا وقعت المعصية في ليل أو نهار. سَعة رحمة اللّه وإحسانه لعباده أنْ شرّع لهم التوبة وفتح لهم أبوابها. إنّ اللّه تعالى يبسط يد الفضل والإنعام والرضى للعفو عن المذنبين النادمين حتى تقوم الساعة. قبول التوبة مستمرّ ما دام بابها مفتوحًا. يُغلَق بابُ التوبةِ بمطلِعِ الشمس من مغربها، وهو علامة كبرى من علامات الساعة. اللّه تعالى يقبل توبة العبد وإن تأخّرت، لكنّ المبادرة بالتوبة هي الواجب؛ لأنّ الإنسان لا يدري، فقد يفاجئه الموت.
The encouragement to hasten in repentance whenever a sin is committed, whether by night or by day. The vastness of Allah's mercy and grace toward His servants in legislating repentance for them and opening its doors. Allah the Most High extends the hand of bounty, favor, and acceptance to pardon repentant sinners until the Hour is established. The acceptance of repentance continues as long as its door remains open. The door of repentance will be closed when the sun rises from the west, which is a major sign of the Hour. Allah the Most High accepts the repentance of a servant even if it is delayed, but hastening to repent is obligatory, for a person does not know when death may take him by surprise.
