عن أبي هريرة رضي اللّهُ عنه قال: قال رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «دِينَارٌ أَنْفَقْتَهُ في سبيلِ اللّهِ، وَدِينَارٌ أَنْفَقتَهُ في رقَبَةٍ، ودِينَارٌ تصدَّقْتَ بِهِ عَلَى مِسْكِينٍ، وَدِينَارٌ أَنْفَقْتَهُ علَى أَهْلِكَ، أَعْظمُهَا أَجْرًا الَّذي أَنْفَقْتَهُ علَى أَهْلِكَ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "A dinar you spend in the cause of Allah, a dinar you spend to free a slave, a dinar you give in charity to a poor person, and a dinar you spend on your family — the greatest of them in reward is the one you spend on your family." الشرح · explanation
في سبيل اللّه: كل عمل خير، لكن الأكثر استعماله للدلالة على الجهاد. في رقبة: إعتاق عبد أي تحريره. مسكين: محتاج.
"In the cause of Allah": any good deed, but most often used to denote jihad. "To free a slave" (raqabah): manumission of a slave — to free him. "A poor person" (miskīn): one in need.

الحثّ على النفقة على العيال، وبيانُ عِظَمِ الثواب فيها. أنّ النفقة على الأهل والعيال هي أفضل أنواع النفقات؛ لأنّها من باب النفقة الواجبة، وما عداها من باب المندوب في الغالب، وهذا ما عدا الزكاة الواجبة.
Encouragement to spend on one's dependents, and the statement of the great reward therein. Spending on family and dependents is the best kind of spending, because it is obligatory spending, while other kinds are generally voluntary — and this is besides the obligatory zakat.
