عن عبدِ اللّهِ بنِ عمرَ رضي اللّهُ عنهما قال: قال رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «خَيْرُ الأَصحابِ عِنْدَ اللّهِ تعالى خَيْرُهُمْ لصـاحِبِهِ، وخَيْرُ الجيرانِ عِنْدَ اللّهِ تعالى خيْرُهُمْ لجارِهِ» رواه الترمذي وقال: حديث حسن.
ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "The best of companions with Allah the Exalted is the one who is best to his companion; and the best of neighbors with Allah the Exalted is the one who is best to his neighbor." الشرح · explanation
خير الأصحاب: أفضلهم وأكثرهم ثوابًا وأكرمهم منزلةً، وكذا خير الجيران. خيرهم لصاحبه: أكثرهم قيامًا بما ينفع صاحبه ويدفع عنه الأذى، وكذا خيرهم لجاره.
"Best of companions": the most virtuous of them, the most abundant in reward, and the most noble in station; likewise the best of neighbors. "Best to his companion": the most diligent in what benefits his companion and in repelling harm from him; likewise the best to his neighbor.

Encouragement to secure benefit for friends and neighbors, and to strive to repel harm from them. Successful social relationships are among the fruits of faith. Extending good and benefit to people earns the pleasure of Allah the Exalted and elevation of rank in the Hereafter.
