عَن ابنِ عُمَرَ رضي اللهُ عنهما، عن أبي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رضي الله عنه مَوْقُوفًا عَلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «ارْقُبُوا مُحَمَّدًا صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ في أَهْلِ بيْتِهِ» رواه البخاري.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported, on the authority of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him)—as a statement attributed to him—that he said: "Be mindful of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in regard to the members of his household." [Reported by al-Bukhari]
الشرح · explanation
موقوفًا: أي ما أضيف إلى الصحابيّ من قول أو فعل. ارْقُبُوا: أي رَاعُوهُ واحترِموُه وأكرمُوه.
Attributed to him (mawqufan): that is, a statement or action ascribed to a Companion. Be mindful (urqubu): that is, observe, respect, and honor him.

إكرام أهل بيت النبيّ صلّى الله عليه وسلّمَ وتعظيمهم وحبهم وموالاتهم. محبة آل النبيّ صلّى اللهُ عليه وسلّمَ إنّما تكون باتباع هَدْيِ النبيّ صلّى اللهُ عليه وسلّمَ والتخلّق بأخلاق أهل بيته، وليس حبًّا عاطفيًّا مجرَّدًا يؤدي إلى المغالاة، وربما إلى شيءٍ محظورٍ في الإسلام، فالمحبّة الصادقة علامتها الاتباع والاقتداء لا مجرد الدَّعوى.
Honoring the household of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), exalting them, loving them, and allying oneself with them. Love for the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is only realized through following the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and adopting the character of the members of his household. It is not a mere emotional affection that leads to extremism, and perhaps to something forbidden in Islam, for the sign of true love is following and emulation, not mere claim.
