عن أُسَيْرِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو -ويُقَالُ: ابْنُ جابِر- قال: كَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الخَطَّابِ رضيَ اللهُ عنه إِذا أَتَى عَلَيْهِ أَمْدادُ أَهْلِ الْيمنِ سأَلَهُمْ: أفيكُمْ أُوَيْسُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ؟ حتَّى أَتَى عَلَى أُوَيْسٍ رضي الله عنه، فقال له: أَنْتَ أُوَيْسُ بْنُ عامِرٍ؟ قال: نَعَمْ، قال: مِنْ مُرَادٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ قَرَنٍ؟ قال: نعَمْ، قال: فكَانَ بِكَ بَرَصٌ، فَبَرِأْتَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا مَوْضِعَ دِرْهَمٍ؟ قال: نَعَمْ، قال: لَكَ والِدَةٌ؟ قال: نَعَمْ، قال: سَمِعْتُ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يقول: «يَأْتِي علَيْكُمْ أُوَيْسُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ مع أَمْدَادِ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ، مِنْ مُرَادٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ قَرَنٍ، كَانَ بِهِ برصٌ فَبَرَأَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا مَوْضعَ دِرْهَمٍ، لَهُ وَالِدَةٌ هُو بِها بَرٌّ، لَوْ أَقْسَمَ على اللهِ لأَبَرَّهُ، فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرَ لَكَ فَافْعَلْ». رواه مسلم.
Usayr ibn 'Amr -also called Ibn Jabir- reported: When the reinforcement-companies of the people of Yemen would come to 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he would ask them: Is Uways ibn 'Amir among you? Until he came upon Uways (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: Are you Uways ibn 'Amir? He said: Yes. He said: From Murad, then from Qaran? He said: Yes. He said: You had leprosy from which you were cured except for the spot of a dirham? He said: Yes. He said: You have a mother? He said: Yes. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There will come to you Uways ibn 'Amir with the reinforcement-companies of the people of Yemen, from Murad, then from Qaran. He had leprosy from which he was cured except for the spot of a dirham. He has a mother to whom he is dutiful. Were he to swear an oath by Allah, Allah would fulfill it for him. So if you are able to have him ask forgiveness for you, then do so." Narrated by Muslim.

رثَّ البيت: كناية عن فقره وقِدم أثاث بيته. قليل المتاع: المتاع في اللغة كل ما ينتفع به. برص: مرض جلدي وهو بياض يظهر على البشرة. فبَرِأ: فشّفَي. بَرّ: بالغ في البر والإحسان إلى أمه. غبراء الناس: أي فقراؤهم ومن لا يُعرف عينه من اخلاطهم. الأمداد: وهم الأعوان والناصرون الذين كانوا يمدُّون المسلمين في الجهاد.
"The house was shabby" (rathth al-bayt): an indication of his poverty and the worn age of his household furnishings. "Of few possessions": mata' in the language is everything from which benefit is derived. "Leprosy" (baras): a skin disease, namely a whiteness that appears on the skin. "He was cured" (fa-bari'a): that is, he was healed. "Dutiful" (barr): he was abundant in dutifulness and kindness to his mother. "The obscure ones among the people" (ghabra' al-nas): that is, their poor and those of unknown identity among the common folk. "The reinforcement-companies" (al-amdad): they are the helpers and supporters who used to reinforce the Muslims in jihad.

فضل أويس بن عامر رضي الله عنه وأنه خير التابعين. من جملة معجزات النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الإخبار عن الأمر قبل وقوعه، وفي هذا الحديث ذكر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أويسًا باسمه وصفته وعلامته واجتماعه بعُمَر؛ فكان كما أخبر. ما فعله عمر رضي الله عنه فيه تبليغ الشريعة ونشر السنة، والإقرار بالفضل لأهله، والثناء على من لا يخشى عليه عُجبٌ بذلك ليَقِينه وكمال دينه. طلب الدعاء من أصحاب الفضل والصلاح وإن كان الطالِب أفضل، والازدياد من الخير.
The merit of Uways ibn 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) and that he is the best of the Successors (Tabi'un). Among the miracles of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is foretelling a matter before its occurrence; in this hadith the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned Uways by his name, his description, his distinguishing mark, and his meeting with 'Umar, and it came to pass just as he foretold. What 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did contains the conveying of the Law, the spreading of the Sunnah, and the acknowledgment of merit to its rightful owners; and praising one who is not feared to fall into self-admiration on account of it, due to his certainty and the perfection of his religion. Seeking supplication from people of merit and righteousness, even if the one seeking it is the more excellent, and the increase of good.
