عن أبي هريرة رضي اللهُ عنه قال: سمِعْتُ رسُولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يقول: «جَعَلَ اللهُ الرَّحْمَةَ مائَةَ جُزْءٍ، فَأَمْسَكَ عِنْدَهُ تِسْعَةً وتِسْعِينَ، وَأَنْزَلَ في الأَرْضِ جُزْءًا واحِدًا، فَمِنْ ذَلِكَ الجُزْءِ يَتَراحَمُ الخَلائِقُ حَتَّى تَرْفَعَ الدَّابَّةُ حَافِرَهَا عَنْ ولَدِهَا خَشْيَةَ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُ». وفي روايةٍ: «إِنَّ للهِ تَعَالى مائَةَ رَحْمَةٍ، أَنْزَلَ مِنْهَا رَحْمَةً وَاحِدَةً بَيْنَ الجِنِّ والإِنْسِ وَالبَهَائمِ وَالهَوامِّ، فَبهَا يَتَعاطَفُونَ، وبها يَتَراحَمُونَ، وَبها تَعْطِفُ الوَحْشُ عَلى وَلَدهَا، وَأَخَّرَ اللهُ تَعالى تِسْعًا وتِسْعِينَ رَحْمَةً يَرْحَمُ بها عِبَادَهُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ» متفقٌ عليه. ورواهُ مسلم أَيضًا من روايةِ سَلْمَانَ الفَارِسيِّ، رضي اللهُ عنه، قال: قال رسُولُ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «إِنَّ للهِ تَعَالَى ماِئَةَ رَحْمَةٍ فَمِنْها رَحْمَةٌ بها يَتَراحَمُ الخَلْقُ بَيْنَهُمْ، وَتِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ لِيَوْم القِيامَةِ». وفي رواية «إِنَّ اللهَ تعالى خَلَقَ يَومَ خَلَقَ السَّمَواتِ والأَرْضَ مِائَةَ رَحْمَةٍ، كُلُّ رَحْمَةٍ طِبَاقُ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلى الأَرْضِ، فَجَعَلَ مِنها في الأَرْضِ رَحْمَةً فَبِها تَعْطِفُ الوَالِدَةُ عَلَى وَلَدِهَا وَالْوحْشُ وَالطَّيْرُ بَعْضُها عَلَى بَعْضٍ، فَإِذا كانَ يَوْمُ القِيامَةِ، أَكْمَلَها بهِذِهِ الرَّحْمَةِ».
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah made mercy in one hundred parts; He kept ninety-nine parts with Himself and sent down one part to the earth. From that one part creatures show mercy to one another, so much so that a beast lifts its hoof from its young for fear of injuring it." In one narration: "Indeed Allah has one hundred mercies; He sent down one mercy among the jinn, mankind, the cattle, and the crawling creatures, and by it they show kindness to one another, by it they show mercy to one another, and by it the wild beast shows tenderness to its young. And Allah the Exalted has held back ninety-nine mercies, by which He will show mercy to His servants on the Day of Resurrection." Agreed upon. Muslim also reported it from the narration of Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah the Exalted has one hundred mercies; of them is one mercy by which creatures show mercy to one another, and ninety-nine for the Day of Resurrection." In another narration: "Indeed Allah the Exalted created, on the day He created the heavens and the earth, one hundred mercies, each mercy filling the space between heaven and earth. He placed one mercy of them on the earth, and by it the mother shows tenderness to her child, and the wild beasts and the birds show tenderness to one another. And when the Day of Resurrection comes, He will complete it with this mercy."

الرحمة: صفة ثابتة لله تعالى على ما يليق بجلاله. حافرها: طرف رجلها. البهائم: جمع بهيمة، وهي ذوات الأربع من الحيوانات، سميت بذلك لعدم نطقها. الهوام: جمع هامَّة، وهي الحشرات. طباق: تعمّ أي ملء.
"Mercy (al-rahmah)": an attribute firmly established for Allah the Exalted in a manner befitting His majesty. "Its hoof (hafiraha)": the tip of its foot. "The cattle (al-baha'im)": plural of bahimah, the four-legged animals, so called because of their inability to speak. "The crawling creatures (al-hawamm)": plural of hammah, the insects. "Filling (tibaq)": that which fills, covering the whole space.

أن الرحمة التي جعلها الله في قلوب عباده هي من خلقه، والخير الذي أنزله لهم هو من فضله، وكل هذا جزء مما ادّخره الله لعباده المؤمنين يوم القيامة، وفي هذا أعظم الرجاء والبشارة للمؤمنين، فإذا كان يحصل لهم برحمة واحدة خلقها لهم في هذه الدنيا كل هذا التعاطف بينهم، وكل هذا الخير لهم، فكيف بمئة رحمة يوم القيامة. إدخال السرور على المؤمنين، والحثّ على الإيمان، ومزيد الرجاء في رحمات الله تعالى المدّخرة. إن الرحمة التي ادخرها سبحانه وتعالى لعباده يوم القيامة ادخرها لتكون حافزًا على المزيد من الطاعة والتوبة والإقلاع عن المعاصي، وليست مدعاة للتسويف والجرأة على ارتكاب المخالفات وترك الواجبات كما يزعم بعضهم.
The mercy that Allah placed in the hearts of His servants is from His creating, and the good He sent down for them is from His bounty, and all this is part of what Allah has stored up for His believing servants on the Day of Resurrection; in this is the greatest hope and glad tidings for the believers, for if through a single mercy He created for them in this world they attain all this mutual compassion and all this good, then how much more with one hundred mercies on the Day of Resurrection. Bringing joy to the believers, urging them toward faith, and increasing hope in the stored-up mercies of Allah the Exalted. The mercy that Allah, glory be to Him, has stored up for His servants on the Day of Resurrection He stored up to be an incentive for more obedience, repentance, and desisting from sins—not an inducement to procrastination and boldness in committing violations and abandoning obligations, as some claim.
