عنْ سَعد بن أبي وَقَّاصٍ رضيَ اللهُ عنه قال: «إِنِّي لأَوَّلُ العَربِ رَمَى بِسَهْمٍ في سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَلَقَدْ كُنَّا نَغْزُو مَعَ رسولِ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم ما لَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا وَرَقُ الحُبْلَةِ، وَهذا السَّمُرُ، حَتّى إِنْ كانَ أَحَدُنا لَيَضَعُ كما تَضَعُ الشاةُ، ما لَهُ خِلْطٌ» متفقٌ عليه.
Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: "I am the first of the Arabs to shoot an arrow in the cause of Allah. We used to go on military expeditions with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) having no food but the leaves of the hublah tree and these acacia trees, until one of us would relieve himself as a sheep does, his droppings being unmixed." Agreed upon.
الشرح · explanation
الحُبْلَةِ والسَّمُرُ: نَوْعانِ مَعْروفانِ مِنْ شَجَرِ البَادِيَة له ثمر وشوك. خِلْطٌ: لا يختلط بعضه ببعض لشدة جفافه.
The hublah and the samur: two well-known kinds of desert tree bearing fruit and thorns. Unmixed (khilt): it would not stick together, owing to its extreme dryness.
