عَنْ عبدِ اللهِ بْنِ مسعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، عن النَّبِيّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «لا يَدْخُلُ الجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ في قَلْبِهِ مثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مَنْ كِبرٍ » فقال رَجُلٌ: إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبُهُ حسَنًا، وَنَعْلُهُ حَسَنَةً؟ قال: «إِنَّ اللهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الجَمالَ، الكِبْرُ بَطَرُ الحَقِّ، وغَمْطُ النَّاسِ»
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "No one who has in his heart an atom's weight of pride shall enter Paradise." A man said, "A man likes his clothing to be fine and his sandals to be fine." He said, "Indeed Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. Pride is the rejection of truth and the contempt of people."

مثقال: وزن. ذرة: صغار النمل، أو الجزء من أجزاء الهباءة وهو ما لا يراه الإنسان إلا بالضوء من أجزاء الغبار. إن الله جميل: أي له الجمال المطلق، جمال الذات والصفات والأفعال. يحبّ الجمال: يحبّ التجمّل منكم فى الهيئة والأقوال والأفعال. بَطَرُ الحقّ: إنكار الحقّ ودفْعُهُ وردُّهُ على قائِلِهِ. غَمْطُ النَّاس: احْتِقَارُهُمْ.
Weight (mithqal): a measure of weight. Atom (dharrah): a tiny ant, or one of the particles of dust-motes - that which a person sees only in a beam of light among the specks of dust. Indeed Allah is beautiful: that is, His is absolute beauty - the beauty of essence, attributes, and acts. Loves beauty: He loves that you adorn yourselves in appearance, words, and deeds. The rejection of truth (batar al-haqq): denying the truth, repelling it, and returning it upon the one who states it. The contempt of people (ghamt al-nas): scorning them.

تحريم الكِبر، وأن المتكبر لا يدخل الجنة إن قاده كبرُه إلى رفض الإيمان، أو لا يدخل الجنة إلا بعد عذاب إن كان كبره تعاليًا على الناس وتفاخرًا عليهم سواء كان بلباس أو بمال أو جاه أو غير ذلك. التحذير من رفض الحقّ بسبب أنّه جاء من إنسان تراه أنقص وأدنى منزلة منك، وما أكثر هذا في زماننا. جواز التجمّل من غير خيلاء، وأن هذا من الخصال التي يحبّها الله في عباده أن يتجملوا ويظهروا بهيئة حسنة نظيفة. أنّ التزهّد والتعبّد والتخشّع لا يكون في الظهور بهيئة سيئة من سوء اللباس وعدم التنظّف وهو يقدر على التجمّل والتطيّب.
The prohibition of pride, and that the proud person shall not enter Paradise if his pride leads him to reject faith, or shall not enter Paradise except after punishment if his pride is a haughtiness over people and boasting against them, whether through dress, wealth, status, or anything else. A warning against rejecting the truth merely because it came from a person you regard as more deficient and of lower rank than yourself - and how widespread this is in our time. The permissibility of adorning oneself without arrogance, and that this is among the qualities Allah loves in His servants: that they adorn themselves and appear in a fine, clean condition. That asceticism, devotion, and humility before Allah do not consist in appearing in a poor condition through shabby dress and lack of cleanliness while one is able to adorn and perfume oneself.
