عَن أبي هُريرةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: أنَّ رسولَ اللهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «إنَّكمْ ستحرِصونَ على الإمارةِ، وستَكُونُ نَدَامَةً يوْمَ القِيامَةِ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will be eager for authority, but it will be a source of regret on the Day of Resurrection." Reported by al-Bukhari.

ستحرصون: سيكون من بعضكم حرص بالطلب وغيره.
"You will be eager": some of you will be eager for it, by seeking it and otherwise.

التنفير من الحرص على المراتب والمناصب، وخاصة ممّن لا تتوفر فيه الأهلية، أو لمس من نفسه التقصير في واجباتها. لما كانت الإمارة جميلة في ظاهرها تستشرف لها النفوس ناسب أن يُبيّن عاقبتها الأخروية لمن لم يقم بها على الوجه الأكمل. الحرص المذموم هو أن يطلب ما هو قائم لغيره، أما إن حرص على القيام بأمر ضائع من أمور المسلمين، أو على سدّ خلّة فيهم فلا بأس.
Discouragement from being eager for ranks and positions, especially for one who lacks the competence for them or senses his own shortcoming in their duties. Since authority is outwardly attractive and souls aspire to it, it was fitting to clarify its consequence in the Hereafter for one who does not fulfill it in the most complete manner. The blameworthy eagerness is to seek what is already held by another; but if one is eager to take up a neglected affair of the Muslims, or to fill a gap among them, there is no harm in that.
