عن جابرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: كانَ النَّبِيُّّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم إِذا كَانَ يَوْمُ عِيدٍ خَالَفَ الطَّرِيقَ. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When it was the day of Eid, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would take a different route. Reported by al-Bukhari.
الشرح · explanation
خَالَفَ الطَّرِيق: أي ذَهَبَ في طَرِيقٍ، وَرَجَعَ في طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ.
"Took a different route": that is, he would go by one route and return by another.

استحباب أن يكون الذهاب إلى صلاة العيد من طريق والرجوع من طريق آخر، تأسيًا برسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم. من الحِكَم التي التمسها العلماء في تغيير الطريق ليشهد له الطريقان يوم القيامة، أو لإشاعة ذكر الله فيهما، أو لتصدقه على فقرائها، أو التفاؤل بتغير الحال، أو التعرض للرحمة.
It is recommended that one go to the Eid prayer by one route and return by another, in emulation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Among the wisdoms scholars have sought in changing the route: that both routes may bear witness for him on the Day of Resurrection, or to spread the remembrance of Allah on them, or to give charity to their poor, or as a good omen for a change of state, or to expose oneself to mercy.
