عَن ابنِ عباسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا: أنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ نَهَى أَنْ يُتنَفَّسَ في الإِنَاءِ، أَوْ يُنْفَخَ فِيهِ. رواهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقالَ: حَسَنٌ صحيحٌ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade breathing into the vessel or blowing into it. Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: hasan sahih.

كمال أدب الإسلام لإرادة المبالغة في النظافة، إذ قد يخرج مع النَّفَس بصاق أو مخاط أو بخار رديء فيكسبه رائحة كريهة فيتقذر بها هو أو غيره من شربه. النهي للكراهة لا للتحريم، سواء النفخ في إناء فيه ماء أو غيره.
The perfection of Islam's etiquette in its desire for the utmost cleanliness, since saliva, mucus, or foul vapor may come out with the breath and give the drink an offensive odor, so that either he or someone else who drinks it finds it repugnant. The prohibition denotes disapproval, not forbiddance, whether it be blowing into a vessel containing water or something else.
