عَنْ أنسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: أنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ كانَ إذا تَكَلَّمَ بِكَلِمةٍ أعَادهَا ثَلاثًا، حتَّى تُفْهَمَ عنْهُ، وإذا أتى على قوْمٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيهِمْ سَلَّمَ عَلَيهِمْ ثَلاثًا. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ. وهذا محمُولٌ عَلَى ما إذا كانَ الجَمْعُ كثيرًا.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he spoke a word, would repeat it three times until it was understood from him; and when he came upon a group of people and greeted them, he would greet them three times. Reported by al-Bukhari. This is understood to apply when the gathering was large.

يستحبّ للإنسان إذا سلَّم أن يُكرر ثلاثًا إذا خشي أنّهم لم يسمعوا، وإذا تكلم بفائدةٍ يُكررها حتى تُفهم عنه، ولهذا قال أنس أن النبي كان إذا سلَّم سلَّم ثلاثًا، وإذا تكلم بكلمةٍ أعادها ثلاثًا حتى تُفهم عنه. كمال عطفه صلّى الله عليه وسلّم على أصحابه وحسن خطابه. توجيه المعنيين بتعليم الناس إلى أسلوب الخطاب والكلام.
It is recommended for a person, when he gives the salam, to repeat it three times if he fears they did not hear, and when he says something of benefit to repeat it until it is understood from him; this is why Anas reported that the Prophet, when he gave the salam, would give it three times, and when he spoke a word would repeat it three times until it was understood from him. The perfection of his (peace and blessings be upon him) tenderness toward his Companions and the excellence of his address. Directing those concerned with teaching people toward an effective manner of address and speech.
