عنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُمَا: أَنَّ عليَّ بنَ أَبي طالبٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ خرجَ مِنْ عِنْدِ رسولِ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ في وجَعِهِ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ، فقالَ النَّاسُ: يا أَبَا الحسنِ؛ كَيـْفَ أَصْبَحَ رسولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ؟ قالَ: أَصْبحَ بِحمْدِ اللّهِ بَارِئًا. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came out from the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during the illness in which he passed away. The people said: "O Abu al-Hasan, how has the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fared this morning?" He said: "He has awoken this morning, by the praise of Allah, recovering." أصبح بارئًا: اسم فاعل من البرء، أي قريبًا من البرء بحسب ظنه، أو قالها تفاؤلًا.
"Awoken recovering (bari'an)": an active participle from bur' (recovery), that is, close to recovery according to his estimation, or he said it as a good omen.
