عنِ ابنِ مسعودٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَلْقَى اللّه تعالى غدًا مُسْلِمًا فَلْيُحَافِظْ عَلى هَؤُلاءِ الصَّلَواتِ حَيْثُ يُنادَى بِهِنَّ؛ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ شَرَعَ لِنَبِيِّكُمْ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ سُنَنَ الهُدَى، وَإِنَّهُنَّ مِن سُنَنِ الهُدَى، وَلَوْ أَنَّكُمْ صَلَّيْتُمْ في بُيُوتِكِمْ كَمَا يُصَلِّي هذا المُتَخَلِّفُ في بَيتِهِ لَتَركْتُمْ سُنَّةَ نَبِيِّكُمْ، ولَو تَركْتُمْ سُنَّةَ نَبِيِّكُمْ لَضَلَلْتُمْ، ولَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا وما يَتَخَلَّفُ عَنْهَا إِلّا مُنافِقٌ مَعْلُومُ النِّفَاقِ، وَلَقَدْ كانَ الرَّجُلُ يُؤْتَىَ بِهِ، يُهَادَى بيْنَ الرَّجُلَيْنِ حَتَّى يُقَامَ في الصَّفِّ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ. وفي رِوَايةٍ لهُ قالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ عَلَّمَنَا سُنَنَ الهُدَى، وَإِنَّ مِنْ سُنَنِ الهُدَى الصَّلاَةَ في المسْجِدِ الَّذي يُؤَذَّنُ فِيهِ.

Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Whoever wishes to meet Allah the Exalted tomorrow as a Muslim, let him maintain these prayers wherever the call to them is made, for Allah has prescribed for your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the ways of guidance, and they are among the ways of guidance. If you were to pray in your houses as this one who stays behind prays in his house, you would have abandoned the Sunnah of your Prophet, and if you abandoned the Sunnah of your Prophet, you would go astray. I have seen a time among us when no one stayed away from it but a hypocrite whose hypocrisy was well known; and a man would be brought, supported between two men, until he was made to stand in the row. Reported by Muslim. In another narration by him he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the ways of guidance, and among the ways of guidance is prayer in the mosque in which the adhan is called.
