عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ بَيْنَ الرَّجُلِ وَبَيْنَ الشِّرْكِ والكُفْرِ تَرْكَ الصَّلاةِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Between a man and polytheism and disbelief stands the abandonment of prayer." Reported by Muslim.

أنّ بين الإسلام والاتصاف بالكفر ترك الصلاة فمن تركها فقد كفر. أنّ الصلاة هي العلامة التي تدل ظاهرًا على إسلام الرجل وتركها يعني دليل كفره.
What stands between Islam and being characterized by disbelief is the abandonment of prayer; whoever abandons it has committed disbelief. Prayer is the outward sign indicating a person's Islam, and abandoning it is a proof of his disbelief.
