Riyad Al Salihin

Abu Abdullah Bilal ibn Rabah (may Allah be pleased with him) — the muezzin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) — came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to inform him of the morning prayer, but Aisha kept Bilal occupied with a matter she asked him about, until it was full daylight. Bilal rose and informed him of the prayer, and repeated his call, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not come out. When he came out, he led the people in prayer, and Bilal informed him that Aisha had kept him occupied with a matter she asked him about until it was full daylight, and that this was why he had been slow to come out. He — meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — said: "I had prayed the two rak'ahs of Fajr." Bilal said: O Messenger of Allah, you delayed until it was full daylight. He said: "Even had it become more daylight than it did, I would still have prayed them, and prayed them well and beautifully." Reported by Abu Dawud with a hasan (good) chain.

"To inform him" (li-yu'dhinahu): to notify him. "Until it was full daylight" (hatta asbaha jiddan): that is, the morning had well set in and its light had begun to spread across the horizon. "And repeated his call" (wa taba'a adhanahu): that is, his notification, following one part with another when he saw the daylight. "Even had it become more daylight" (law asbahtu akthar): that is, even had I entered further into the morning — and even had I not already prayed them, I would have prayed them.

A strong emphasis on the desirability of the two rak'ahs of Fajr (the confirmed sunnah), and the keenness to perform them before the (obligatory) Fajr prayer.
