عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُمَا قالَ: رَمَقْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ شَهْرًا، وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ في الرَّكْعَتيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ: قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الكَافِرُونَ وَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ. رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I watched the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a month, and he used to recite in the two rak'ahs before Fajr: "Say: O disbelievers" (Qul ya ayyuha al-kafirun) and "Say: He is Allah, One" (Qul huwa Allahu Ahad). Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

رمقت النَّبِيّ صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم شهرًا: راقبت صلاته شهرًا كاملًا.
"I watched the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a month": I observed his prayer for a whole month.

Reconciling what has been reported concerning the recitation in the two sunnah rak'ahs of Fajr in these three hadiths is this: that the Muslim recite sometimes with the one and sometimes with the other, thereby applying the Sunnah in the various forms in which it has come.
