عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا قالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ إذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ اضْطَجَع عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had prayed the two rak'ahs of Fajr, he would lie down on his right side. Reported by al-Bukhari.

اضطجع: رقد. على شقه: على جنبه.
"He would lie down" (idtaja'a): he reclined. "On his side" ('ala shiqqihi): on his flank.

قيل في سبب هذا الاضطجاع المذكور بين صلاة سنّة وفريضة الفجر أنّه لتجديد نشاطه صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم بعد قيامه لصلاة الليل. الاضطجاع على اليمين لشرفها ولكون القلب يميل إلى الجهة اليسرى فيكون أسهل في الاستيقاظ كما بيَّن ذلك العلماء.
It has been said, regarding the reason for this lying down mentioned between the sunnah and the obligatory prayer of Fajr, that it was to renew his vigor (peace and blessings be upon him) after his standing for the night prayer. Lying down on the right side is for its nobility, and because the heart leans toward the left side, so it is easier to wake up — as the scholars have explained.
