عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا لَمْ يُصَلِّ أَرْبَعًا قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ صَلاَّهُنَّ بَعْدَهَا. رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not pray the four rak'ahs before Zuhr, he would pray them after it. Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

زيادة اهتمام النَّبِيّ صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم بأربع ركعات قبل صلاة الظهر. في كلام عائشة رضي اللَّهُ عنها إيماء إلى العناية بالسنّة القبلية وتقديمها على المكتوبة، فإن أخرت عنها تُدورِكت فيما بقي من الوقت أداءً وبعده قضاءً.
The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) added concern for the four rak'ahs before the Zuhr prayer. In the words of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) there is an indication of the importance of the sunnah performed before the obligatory prayer and of giving it precedence; and if it is delayed past its time, it is made up in what remains of the time as a timely performance, and after that as a makeup.
