عنْ عَليِّ بنِ أَبي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي قَبْلَ العَصْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ. رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بإسْنادٍ صَحِيحٍ.
Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray two rak'ahs before Asr. Reported by Abu Dawud with a sahih (authentic) chain.

The legislated permissibility of praying two rak'ahs before Asr, though it is not among the regular sunnah prayers. That whoever prays two rak'ahs before Asr hoping for its reward, then the bounty of Allah is vast.
