عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّهُ رَأَى قَوْمًا يُصَلُّونَ مِنَ الضُّحَى، فقالَ: أَمَا لَقَدْ عَلِمُوا أَنَّ الصَّلاةَ في غَيْرِ هذِهِ السَّاعَةِ أَفْضَلُ، إنَّ رسُولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ قالَ: «صَلاةُ الأوَّابِينَ حِينَ ترْمَضُ الفِصَالُ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he saw some people praying the Duha, so he said: They certainly know that praying at a time other than this is more excellent. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The prayer of the oft-returning penitents (awwabin) is when the young camels feel the burning heat of the sand." الشرح · explanation
يصلون من الضحى: أي يصلون أول وقت الضحى. الأوابين: من الأوبة: وهي الرجوع، أي الرجَّاعون إلى اللّهِ تعالى بالتوبة والاستغفار والطاعة. ترمض الفصال: الرمضاء: الرمل الذي اشتدت حرارته بالشمس، أي حين تحترق أخفاف الفصال، وهي الصغار من أولاد الإبل، وذلك من شدة الحر، وهو أفضل وقت لصلاة الضحى. تَرمَض: أي شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ الحارقة الفِصالُ: جَمْعُ فَصِيلٍ، وَهُوَ الصَّغِيرُ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ.
"Praying the Duha": that is, praying at the beginning of the time of Duha. "The awwabin": from awbah, meaning returning; that is, those who frequently return to Allah the Exalted through repentance, seeking forgiveness, and obedience. "When the young camels feel the burning heat of the sand": the ramda' is sand whose heat has been intensified by the sun; that is, when the hooves of the young camels — the little offspring of camels — are scorched from the intensity of the heat, and this is the most excellent time for the Duha prayer. "Feel the burning heat (tarmad)": that is, the scorching intensity of the heat. "Al-fisal": the plural of fasil, which is the young offspring of a camel.

أنّ صلاة الضحى تجوز من ارتفاع الشمس إلى زوالها، ولكن الأفضل أن تُصلى عند ارتفاع الشمس واشتداد الحر.
The Duha prayer is valid from the time the sun has risen until it passes the meridian, but it is most excellent to pray it when the sun has risen high and the heat has intensified.
