عن أبي هريرة رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنهُ أن رَسُول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّم قال لبلال: «يا بلال حدثني بأرجى عمل عملته في الإسلام، فإني سمعت دف نعليك بين يدي في الجنة» قال: ما عملت عملًا أرجى عندي من أنّي لم أتطهّر طهورًا في ساعة من ليل أو نهار إلّا صليت بذلك الطهور ما كتب لي أن أصلي. مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيهِ. وهذا لفظ البخاري.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Bilal: "O Bilal, tell me of the deed for which you have the greatest hope among those you have done in Islam, for I heard the footfall of your sandals ahead of me in Paradise." He said: I have not done any deed for which I have greater hope than that I never purified myself, at any hour of night or day, without praying with that purification whatever was decreed for me to pray. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim); this is the wording of al-Bukhari.

بلال: هو بلال الحبشي مؤذن رسول الله صلّى اللّهُ عليه وسلّم. بأرجى عمل: أي بالعمل الذي هو أكثر رجاء في حصول أجره. بين يدي: أمامي. لم أتطهر طهوراً: يشمل هذا الوضوء والغسل والتيمم ولو على الاستحباب. ما كتب لي: أي ما تيسر لي.
"Bilal": he is Bilal al-Habashi, the muezzin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). "The deed for which you have the greatest hope": that is, the deed in which there is the greatest hope of attaining its reward. "Ahead of me": in front of me. "I never purified myself": this includes ablution (wudu), the ritual bath (ghusl), and dry ablution (tayammum), even if only recommended. "Whatever was decreed for me": that is, whatever was made easy for me.
