عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ نَامَ لَيْلَةً حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ، قَالَ: «ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ بَالَ الشَّيطَانُ في أُذُنَيْهِ»، أَوْ قَالَ: «فِي أُذُنِهِ»، مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who had slept the whole night until morning. He said: "That is a man in whose ears Satan urinated," or he said: "in his ear." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

بال الشيطان: في بول الشيطان أقوال منها: أصوبها أنّه على الحقيقة ولا مانع من ذلك؛ حيث جاء في غير موضع أنّ الشيطان يشارك الإنسان في مأكله ومشربه و... إذا لم يستعذ باللّه تعالى.
"Satan urinated": concerning Satan's urination there are several opinions; the most correct is that it is literal, and there is nothing to preclude this, since it has come in more than one place that Satan shares with a person in his food and drink and so on if he does not seek refuge in Allah the Exalted.

The disliked nature of abandoning the night prayer, and that this is from the work of Satan. Neglecting to follow the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a cause for Satan's gaining power and for turning a person away from acts of obedience.
