عَنْ عَبْدِ اللّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِي رَضَيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا عَبْدَ اللّهِ، لاَ تَكُنْ مِثْلَ فُلانٍ؛ كَانَ يَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ فَتَرَكَ قِيَامَ اللَّيْلِ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abdullah, do not be like so-and-so; he used to pray at night and then abandoned the night prayer." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

يقوم الليل: أي يتهجد جزءّا من الليل.
"He prays at night": that is, he performs the tahajjud during part of the night.

استحباب المواظبة على قيام الليل، والحثّ على المداومة في الأعمال الصالحة، والتنفير من قطع ما اعتاده الإنسان من عمل البرّ. قليل العمل الدائم خير من كثيره المنقطع. الاقتداء بالمجتهدين وعدم التأسّي بالمقصرين.
The recommendation of persevering in the night prayer, encouragement to be constant in righteous deeds, and a discouragement from abandoning a good deed one has become accustomed to. A small deed done consistently is better than a large one done intermittently. Following the example of the diligent and not imitating the negligent.
