عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللّهِ المُحَرَّمُ، وَأفْضَلُ الصَّلاةِ بَعْدَ الفَرِيضَةِ صَلاةُ اللَّيْلِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best fasting after Ramadan is [in] Allah's month of Muharram, and the best prayer after the obligatory [prayer] is the night prayer." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
شهر اللّهِ المحرّم: أي الصوم فيه، وإضافته إلى اللّهِ تعالى للتشريف. أفضل الصيام: أي النفل.
"Allah's month of Muharram": that is, fasting in it; its attribution to Allah the Exalted is for honoring it. "The best fasting": that is, of the voluntary fasting.
