عَنْ عائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «تَحرَّوْا لَيْلةَ الْقَدْرِ فِي الْوَتْـرِ مِن الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek out the Night of Decree in the odd [nights] of the last ten [nights] of Ramadan." Reported by al-Bukhari.

في الوتر: أي في الليالي المفردة؛ كإحدى وعشرين، وثلاثة وعشرين وهكذا.
"In the odd [nights]": that is, in the odd-numbered nights, such as the twenty-first, the twenty-third, and so on.

أنّ ليلة القدر تكون في العشر الأواخر من رمضان والراجح أنّها في الليالي المفردة منه. الحثّ على الاعتكاف وإحياء ليالي العشر الأواخر من كلّ رمضان وتخصيصها بمزيد من الاجتهاد رجاء مصادفتها ليلة القدر، وهذه هي الحكمة من إبهامها فيه.
The Night of Decree falls within the last ten nights of Ramadan, and the more correct view is that it is among the odd-numbered nights thereof. Encouragement to perform i'tikaf and to spend the nights of the last ten of every Ramadan alive [with worship], devoting to them added striving in the hope of coinciding with the Night of Decree; this is the wisdom behind keeping it ambiguous within them.
