عَنْ عائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَجْتَهِدُ فِي رَمَضَانَ مَا لا يَجْتَهِدُ فِي غَيْرِهِ، وَفِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ منْهُ مَا لا يَجْتَهِدُ فِي غَيْرِهِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would strive in worship during Ramadan more than he would at any other time, and during its last ten days more than he would at any other time. Reported by Muslim.

يجتهد: يبذل جهده في العبادة ووجوه الخير والإقبال على اللّهِ عزّ وجلّ.
"Would strive": he would exert his utmost in worship, in avenues of goodness, and in turning toward Allah (the Mighty and Majestic).

الحثّ على الإكثار من وجوه الطاعات في شهر رمضان عامّة والعشر الأخير منه خاصّة. إحياء ليالي العشر الأخير بالعبادة والدعاء رجاء موافقة ليلة القدر. يستحبّ للرجل حثّ أهله من زوج أو ولد على أعمال الخير، والتعرض لنفحات اللّهِ عزّ وجلّ في مواسم القبول كالعشر الأخير من رمضان. فضل شهر رمضان على غيره من الشهور وفضل العشر الأخير منه على غيره. الحثّ على الاعتكاف في العشر الأخير من رمضان وهو سنّة مؤكّدة.
Encouragement to increase acts of obedience abundantly during the month of Ramadan in general, and its last ten days in particular. Spending the nights of the last ten days in worship and supplication, hoping to coincide with Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree). It is recommended for a man to urge his family, spouse and children, toward good deeds and to expose themselves to the outpourings of Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) during seasons of acceptance such as the last ten days of Ramadan. The superiority of the month of Ramadan over other months, and the superiority of its last ten days over the rest of it. Encouragement to observe iʿtikaf (spiritual retreat) during the last ten days of Ramadan, which is a confirmed sunnah.
