عَنْ عائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ عَلِمْتُ أَيَّ لَيْلَةٍ لَيْلَةُ القَدْرِ مَا أَقُولُ فِيهَا؟ قَالَ: «قُولِي: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I said: O Messenger of Allah, if I come to know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say in it? He said: "Say: O Allah, You are Most Pardoning and You love pardon, so pardon me." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.

أرأيت: أي أخبرني. عفوّ: صيغة مبالغة من العفو، أي من شأنك العفو عن الكبير والصغير.
"Do you see": that is, tell me, inform me. "Most Pardoning" (ʿAfuww): an intensive form derived from "pardon," meaning it is Your way to pardon the great sin and the small.

The most important thing a Muslim should seek is purification from sins and deliverance from the consequences of disobedience. Encouragement to seek pardon from Allah (Glorified is He) and to persist in that, especially during the hours of acceptance, the best of which is Laylat al-Qadr. The scholars mentioned that among the signs of Laylat al-Qadr is an expansion of the breast and the Muslim's feeling of heartfelt tranquility with Allah the Exalted. Being keen to make this supplication during the last ten days of Ramadan.
