عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ بِخَيْرٍ مَا عَجَّلُوا الْفِطْرَ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people will remain in goodness as long as they hasten to break the fast." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

أنّ المستحب للصائم تعجيل الفطر بعد التحقق من غروب الشمس بالرؤية أو الإخبار. سبب بقاء الخير في دين الناس هو اتباعهم للسنّة ووقوفهم عند هديها وحدودها. من الحِكم في تعجيل الفطور أنّه لا يزيد في النهار من الليل، ولأنّه أرفق بالصائم وأقوى على العبادة، وفي تعجيل الفطر وتأخير السحور قطع الطريق على المتنطعين الذين ربما زادوا في وقت الصوم حتى يصل إلى الحرج والمشقة.
It is recommended for the fasting person to hasten to break the fast once the setting of the sun is confirmed, whether by sighting it or by being informed. The reason for goodness remaining in the people's religion is their following the Sunnah and abiding by its guidance and limits. Among the wisdoms in hastening to break the fast is that one does not add to the day from the night; and because it is gentler on the fasting person and gives greater strength for worship. In hastening the breaking of the fast and delaying the pre-dawn meal there is a barring of the way against those who go to extremes, who might otherwise add to the time of the fast until it reaches the point of hardship and difficulty.
