عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ: أَيْنَ أنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ إنْ قُتِلتُ؟ قَالَ: «فِي الْجَنَّةِ» فَأَلْقَى تَمَرَاتٍ كُنَّ فِي يَدِهِ، ثُمَّ قَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man said: "Where will I be, O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed?" He said: "In Paradise." So he threw away some dates that were in his hand, then fought until he was killed. Reported by Muslim.

فألقى تَمَرَاتٍ كُنَّ في يَدِه: تمرات كان يأكلها فأَلْقَاها وطَلَب الجَنَّةَ، إيمانًا بوَعْدِ اللّهِ تعالى ووَفَاءً منه بعهدِه معه في القِتال في سَبِيله.
"So he threw away some dates that were in his hand": dates he had been eating, which he cast away and sought Paradise instead, out of faith in the promise of Allah the Exalted and in fulfillment of his covenant with Him to fight in His path.

من مات في سبيل اللّهِ فهو في الجنّة. استحباب السؤال عن مصير العمل. استحباب التبشير بالخير على العمل وقد أخبر الرسول صَلَّى اللّهُ عليه وَسَلَّمَ الرجل أنّه في الجنّة لمّا علم منه الإخلاص في الجهاد. الحثّ على المسارعة في أعمال الخير والبر والمسابقة إلى رضوان اللّهِ.
Whoever dies in the path of Allah is in Paradise. The recommendation of asking about the outcome of a deed. The recommendation of giving glad tidings of good upon a deed; the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) told the man that he was in Paradise when he recognized his sincerity in jihad. Encouragement to hasten to deeds of goodness and righteousness and to race toward the pleasure of Allah.
