عنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْعِبَادَةُ فِي الْهَرْجِ كَهِجْرَةٍ إِلَيَّ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Ma'qil ibn Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Worship during turmoil (al-harj) is like emigration to me." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
الهرج: المقصود به وقتُ الفِتَنِ واختِلاطِ الأُمورِ، وحالات الفوضى والفساد والاضطراب والاقتتال وفقد الأمن والأمان. كهجرة إلي: لها مثل ثواب من هاجر إلى مدينة النّبيّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عليه وَسَلَّمَ حين كانت الهجرة إليها واجبة.
"Al-harj": what is meant by it is a time of tribulations and the confusion of affairs—conditions of chaos, corruption, unrest, mutual killing, and the loss of safety and security. "Like emigration to me": it has the like of the reward of one who emigrated to the city of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when emigration to it was obligatory.

الحثّ على العبادة والإقبال على اللّهِ تعالى أيام الفتن واضطراب الأمور، لأنّ الناس يغفلون عنها في هذه الأحوال -إلا القليل- بسبب الخوف والذعر أو الانشغال بها. أنّ من يترك ما حرم اللّه عزّ وجلّ إلى فعل ما أمر به، ويفرّ من الفتن معتصمًا بعبادة ربه، كالمهاجر يفرّ بدينه من دار الكفر وأهله إلى دار الإيمان وأهله. الحثّ على التزام السنّة والتمسك بشرع اللّهِ عزّ وجلّ تحصنًا من الفتن وحفظًا من الفساد.
Encouragement to worship and turn to Allah (Exalted is He) during the days of tribulation and the turmoil of affairs, because people—save a few—become heedless of it in such circumstances due to fear and panic or preoccupation with them. Whoever abandons what Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) has forbidden for doing what He has commanded, and flees from tribulations clinging to the worship of his Lord, is like the emigrant who flees with his religion from the abode of disbelief and its people to the abode of faith and its people. Encouragement to adhere to the Sunnah and hold fast to the law of Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) as a fortification against tribulations and a protection from corruption.
