Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever would be pleased that Allah save him from the distresses of the Day of Resurrection, let him relieve one in hardship or remit the debt for him." Reported by Muslim.
"Distresses (kurab)": grief by which the soul is constricted due to its severity. "Let him relieve one in hardship": that is, he postpones demanding from one who owes a debt whose term has fallen due but who cannot manage to repay it, or he relieves him by giving him money to settle his debt. "Remit for him": he cancels the debt for him, wholly or in part.
