عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الطُّهُورُ شَطْرُ الْإِيمَانِ، وَالْحَمْدُ للّهِ تَمْلأُ الْمِيْزَانَ، وَسُبْحَانَ اللّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ للّهِ تَمْلآنِ -أَوْ تَمْلأُ- مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاواتِ والْأَرْضِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Purity is half of faith; 'praise be to Allah' (al-hamdu lillah) fills the Scale; and 'glory be to Allah and praise be to Allah' (Subhan Allah wa'l-hamdu lillah) fill — or fills — what is between the heavens and the earth." الشرح · explanation
الطهور: أي الوُضوءَ، والطَّهارةُ أصْلُها النَّظافةُ والتَّنَزُّهُ. شطر الإيمان: أي: نِصْفُهُ، والمرادُ أنَّ الأجْرَ في الوُضوءِ يَنتهي إلى نِصْفِ أجْرِ الإيمانِ، لِمَا في الإيمانِ مِن نظافةِ النَّفسِ والقَلْبِ، ولِمَا في الطَّهارةِ مِن نَظافةِ الجَسَدِ.
"Purity": that is, ablution; the root meaning of purity is cleanliness and freedom from impurity. "Half of faith": that is, half of it; what is meant is that the reward for ablution amounts to half the reward of faith, because of the purity of the soul and heart that faith brings, and the purity of the body that ablution brings.

A clarification of some of the faith-based words and deeds that free the one who does them from the Fire.
