عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «يقُولُ اللّهُ تَعَالَى: أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي، وَأَنَا مَعَهُ إِذَا ذَكَرَنِي، فَإِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي نَفْسِهِ، ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي نَفْسِي، وَإِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي ملأٍ، ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي مَلأٍ خَيْرٍ مِنْهُمْ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah the Exalted says: I am as My servant thinks of Me, and I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me within himself, I remember him within Myself; and if he remembers Me in a gathering, I remember him in a gathering better than them." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
عند ظنّ عبدي بي: أي أنا عند اعتقاد عبدي بي وتيقنه من الوثوق بوعدي والرهبة من وعيدي. ذكرني في نفسه: أي سرًا. ذكرته في ملأ: في جماعة من الذاكرين. ملأ خير من ملئه: وهم الملائكة الكرام.
"As My servant thinks of Me": that is, I am according to My servant's belief about Me and his certainty in relying upon My promise and dreading My threat. "He remembers Me within himself": that is, secretly. "I remember him in a gathering": in a company of those who remember. "A gathering better than his gathering": these are the noble angels.

وجوب حسن الظنّ باللّه تعالى، فلا يظن به إلّا خيرًا، فهو يقبل التوب ويغسل الحوب ويجير المضطر ويكشف السوء، لذلك كان اليأس من رحمته كفرًا. فضل الذّكر سرًا وعلانيةً. أنّ اللَّه عزّ وجلّ يُجازي العبد بحسب عمله.
The obligation of thinking well of Allah the Exalted, so that one thinks nothing but good of Him, for He accepts repentance, washes away sin, aids the distressed, and removes affliction; this is why despairing of His mercy is disbelief. The merit of remembrance, both secretly and openly. That Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) rewards the servant according to his deeds.
