عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْها: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهَؤُلاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ النَّارِ، وَعَذَابِ النَّارِ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ الْغِنَى وَالْفَقْرِ» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ، وَالتِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ. وَهَذَا لَفْظُ أَبِي دَاوُودَ.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate with these words: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Fire and the punishment of the Fire, and from the evil of wealth and poverty." Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith. This is the wording of Abu Dawud.
الشرح · explanation
من فتنة النار: أي من الابتلاء بها. من شر الغنى والفقر: وفي رواية الترمذي "ومن شر فتنة الغنى، ومن شر فتنة الفقر" لأنّ الغنى يورث الشَّرَه في جمع المال من الحلال والحرام، ويصل بالإنسان إلى الشحّ والكبر والترف، ولأنّ الفقر قد يوقع الإنسان في اليأس والضجر والتبرم من القدر.
"From the trial of the Fire": that is, from being afflicted by it. "From the evil of wealth and poverty": in al-Tirmidhi's narration it is "and from the evil of the trial of wealth, and from the evil of the trial of poverty," because wealth breeds greed in amassing money from the lawful and the unlawful and leads a person to stinginess, arrogance, and extravagance, and because poverty may cast a person into despair, exasperation, and discontent with the divine decree.
