عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يَقولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُوعِ، فَإِنَّهُ بِئْسَ الْضَّجِيعُ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخِيَانَةِ، فَإِنَّهَا بِئْسَتِ الْبِطَانَةُ» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from hunger, for it is a wretched bedfellow; and I seek refuge in You from treachery, for it is a wretched inner trait." Reported by Abu Dawud with a sahih (authentic) chain.
الشرح · explanation
الضجيع: المصاحب. الخيانة: وهي نقضُ العهدِ والأماناتِ سواءٌ من أن تقعَ مِنه أو تقعَ مِن غَيرِه عليهِ. البطانة: الخصلة الباطنة.
"The bedfellow": the companion. "Treachery": it is the breaking of covenants and trusts, whether it occurs from him or is committed against him by another. "The inner trait": the hidden quality within.
