عَنِ ابْنِ مسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ مِنْ دُعَاءِ رَسُولِ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مُوجِبَاتِ رَحْمَتِكَ، وَعَزَائمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ، وَالسَّلامَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ إِثمٍ، وَالْغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ بِرٍ، وَالفَوْزَ بِالْجَنَّةِ، وَالنَّجَاةَ مِنَ النَّارِ» رَوَاهُ الْحَاكِمُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ، وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ مُسْلِمٍ.
Ibn Masud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that among the supplications of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was: "O Allah, I ask You for the means to Your mercy, the resolves of Your forgiveness, safety from every sin, a share of every act of righteousness, the triumph of Paradise, and deliverance from the Fire." Reported by al-Hakim Abu Abd Allah, who said: a sahih (authentic) hadith according to the conditions of Muslim.

موجبات رحمتك: أي ما يوجبها. عزائم مغفرتك: الأمور التي تقتضي غفرانك. السلامة من كل إثم: أي معصية. الغنيمة من كل بر: أي الإكثار من كل خير.
"The means to Your mercy": that is, that which necessitates it. "The resolves of Your forgiveness": the matters that bring about Your forgiveness. "Safety from every sin": that is, from every act of disobedience. "A share of every act of righteousness": that is, an abundance of every good.

السعي في أعمال البرّ والطاعات، والبعد عن الشرّ والمعاصي، والدعاء بالتوفيق لذلك. أنّ المطلوب من الأدعية كغيرها من الأعمال هو طلب النجاة من النار ودخول الجنّة بسلام.
Striving in deeds of righteousness and acts of obedience, keeping far from evil and sins, and supplicating for success in that. That what is sought through supplications, like other deeds, is deliverance from the Fire and entry into Paradise in safety.
