Riyad Al Salihin

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The supplication of any one of you will be answered as long as he is not hasty, saying: 'I supplicated to my Lord, but He did not answer me.'" Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). In another narration by Muslim: "The servant will continue to have his supplication answered as long as he does not supplicate for something sinful or for the severing of ties of kinship, and as long as he is not hasty." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is being hasty?" He said: "He says: 'I have supplicated and supplicated, yet I do not see it being answered for me,' so he grows weary at that point and abandons supplication."

"For something sinful": with an act of disobedience. "So he grows weary": that is, he becomes sad and exhausted from being hasty.

The prohibition of haste, which prevents the supplication from being answered and leads to abandoning supplication. That the Muslim should supplicate to his Lord, that his supplication should be for good, and that it is answered as long as he does not supplicate for sin or become hasty.
