عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْكَلِمَةِ مِنْ رِضْوَانِ اللّهِ تَعَالَى مَا يُلْقِي لَهَا بَالًا يَرْفَعُهُ اللّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَاتٍ، وَإِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْكَلِمَةِ مِنْ سَخَطِ اللّهِ تَعَالَى لا يُلْقِي لَهَا بَالًا يَهْوِي بِهَا في جَهَنَّمَ» رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed a servant utters a word pleasing to Allah the Exalted, to which he attaches no importance, yet by it Allah raises him in degrees; and indeed a servant utters a word displeasing to Allah the Exalted, to which he attaches no importance, yet by it he plunges into Hell." ما يلقي لها بالًا: أي لا يهتم ولا يكترث بها. يهوي: ينزل.
"To which he attaches no importance": that is, he pays it no heed and gives it no thought. "Plunges": he descends and falls down.

الوعد برفع الدرجات في الجنّة على التكلم بالخير، والوعيد بالهوي في النار على التكلم بالشر. أنّ الكلمة شأنها عظيم فهي قد ترفع صاحبها، وقد تهوي به في نار جهنم فليحذر العبد مما يقوله.
The promise of being raised in degrees in Paradise for speaking good, and the warning of plunging into the Fire for speaking evil. That a word is a matter of great import: it may raise its speaker, or it may plunge him into the Fire of Hell; so let the servant beware of what he says.
