عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا أَصْبَحَ ابْنُ آدَمَ فَإنَّ الأعْضَاءَ كُلَّهَا تُكَفِّرُ اللِّسَانَ، تَقُولُ: اتَّقِ اللّهَ فِينَا، فَإنَّما نَحْنُ بِكَ، فَإِنِ اسْتَقَمْتَ اسْتَقَمْنَا، وَإِنِ اعْوَجَجْتَ اعْوَجَجْنَا» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the son of Adam rises in the morning, all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue, saying: Fear Allah concerning us, for we are but dependent on you; if you are upright we are upright, and if you are crooked we are crooked." الشرح · explanation
إذا أصبح: أي دخل في الصباح. تُكَفِّرُ اللِّسَانَ: أَيْ تَذِلُّ وَتَخْضَعُ لَهُ. نحن بك: أي مجازون بما يصدر عنك.
"When he rises in the morning": that is, he enters upon the morning. "Humble themselves before the tongue": that is, they abase and submit themselves to it. "We are dependent on you": that is, we are requited for what issues from you.

The importance of guarding the tongue for a person's safety, for it is the deputy of the heart and its interpreter, and a person is defined by his two smallest parts: his tongue and his heart.
