عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللّهِ مَا النَّجَاةُ؟ قَالَ: «أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ لِسَانَكَ، وَلْيَسَعْكَ بَيْتُكَ، وَابْكِ عَلَى خَطِيئَتِكَ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Uqbah ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is salvation? He said: "Restrain your tongue, let your house suffice you, and weep over your sin." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.
الشرح · explanation
ما النجاة؟: أي ما سبب الوصول إلى النجاة. وليسعك بيتك: أي اشتغل بما هو سبب في لزوم البيت من طاعة اللّه تعالى.
"What is salvation?": that is, what is the means of attaining salvation. "Let your house suffice you": that is, occupy yourself with what keeps you in your house, such as obedience to Allah the Exalted.
