عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: حَسْبُك مِنْ صَفِيَّةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا -قَالَ بَعْضُ الرُّوَاةِ: تَعْنِي قَصِيرَةً- فَقَالَ: «لَقَدْ قُلْتِ كَلِمَةً لَوْ مُزِجَتْ بِمَاءِ البَحْرِ لَمَزَجَتْهُ!» قَالَتْ: وَحَكَيْتُ لَهُ إِنْسَانًا فَقَالَ: «مَا أُحِبُّ أنِّي حَكَيْتُ إِنْسَانًا وَإنَّ لِي كَذَا وَكَذَا» رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ، وَالتِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "It is enough for you concerning Safiyyah that she is such and such" - some narrators said: she meant that she was short. He said: "You have uttered a word that, were it mixed with the water of the sea, would tinge it!" She said: And I imitated a person to him, whereupon he said: "I would not like to imitate a person even if I were given such and such." Reported by Abu Dawud, and by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan sahih hadith.
