عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قالَ: «مَنْ رَدَّ عَنْ عِرْضِ أَخِيهِ رَدَّ اللّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ النَّارَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وَقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever defends the honor of his brother, Allah (the Mighty and Majestic) will ward off the Fire from his face on the Day of Resurrection." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.

من ردّ عن عرض أخيه: أي دافع عن أخيه في الإيمان والإسلام أمام من يغتابه.
"Whoever defends the honor of his brother": that is, he defends his brother in faith and Islam before one who backbites him.
