عنْ أبي هُرَيرةَ رضي اللَّهُ عنْهُ أنَّ رسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قالَ: «المُتَسابانِ مَا قَالا فَعَلى البَادِي مِنْهُما حتَّى يَعْتَدِيَ المظلُومُ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for two who revile one another, whatever they say is upon the one who began it, until the wronged one exceeds the bounds." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
المتسابان: اللذان يسب كل منهما الآخر. ما قالا: أي إثم ما قالا من السبّ. يعتدي المظلوم: أي يتجاوز حد الانتصار.
"two who revile one another" (al-mutasabban): the two who each revile the other. "whatever they say": that is, the sin of the reviling they uttered. "the wronged one exceeds the bounds": that is, he goes beyond the limit of retaliation.

أن إثم السباب الواقع بينهما يختص بالبادي منهما كله، إلّا أن يجاوز الثاني قدر الانتصار، فيؤذي الظالم بأكثر مما قاله. جواز الانتصار، ولكن الصبر والعفو أفضل.
That the sin of the reviling that occurs between them falls entirely upon the one who began it, unless the second exceeds the measure of retaliation and harms the wrongdoer with more than what he said. The permissibility of retaliating, but patience and pardon are better.
