عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ يَئِسَ أَنْ يَعْبُدَهُ الْمُصَلُّونَ فِي جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ، وَلَكِنْ فِي التَّحْرِيشِ بَيْنَهُمْ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, Satan has despaired of ever being worshipped by those who pray in the Arabian Peninsula, but (he has not despaired) of sowing discord among them." Reported by Muslim.

يئس: من اليأس وفي نسخة "أيس". المصلون: المقصود المسلمون. التَّحْرِيشُ: الْإِفْسَادُ وَتَغيِيرُ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَتَقَاطُعُهُمْ.
"Ya'isa (despaired)": from ya's (despair); in another copy it is "ayisa." "Those who pray": what is meant is the Muslims. "Al-tahrish (sowing discord)": stirring up corruption, turning their hearts against one another, and their mutual severance.

أنّ الصلاة في الإسلام تحفظ المودة بين المسلمين، وتقوي روابط الأخوة بينهم. أنّ الشيطان يعمد إلى إيقاع الخصومات والشحناء والحروب والفتن ونحوها بين المسلمين، ولذلك يجب على المسلم أن يجاهد نفسه ويحملها على الابتعاد عن ذلك واللجوء إلى اللّه والاستعاذة به. هذا الحديث من معجزات النبيّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم، لأنّه أخبر عن مغيب فكان كما أخبر.
Prayer in Islam preserves affection among Muslims and strengthens the bonds of brotherhood between them. Satan sets out to cause quarrels, rancor, wars, tribulations, and the like among Muslims; the Muslim must therefore strive against his soul and compel it to keep away from that, taking refuge in Allah and seeking His protection. This hadith is among the miracles of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for he foretold something unseen and it came to pass just as he foretold.
