عَنْ أنَسٍ رضي اللَّه عنْهُ قَال: نَهَى رسُولُ اللَّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم أنَّ تُصْبَرَ الْبَهَائمُ. متفقٌ عليه.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that beasts be confined (as targets to be killed). Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
تُصْبَر: أي تُحْبسَ للْقَتْلِ.
"Tusbar (be confined)": that is, held to be killed.

النهي عن قتل الحيوان صبرًا، قال العلماء: هو أن يمسك الحي ثم يرمى بشيء حتى يموت، أو كمن يطلق كلاب الصيد على غزال مُقَيَّد.
The prohibition of killing an animal by confining it (sabran). The scholars said: it is to hold a living creature and then shoot something at it until it dies, or like one who looses hunting dogs upon a tethered gazelle.
