عَنِ ابنِ عُمر رضي اللّه عنْهُما أنَّ رَسُولَ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قَالَ: «لا يَأْكُلَنَّ أحدُكُمْ بِشِمالِهِ، وَلا يَشْربَنَّ بِهَا. فَإنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَأْكُلُ بِشِمالِهِ وَيشْربُ بِهَا» رواهُ مسلم.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let none of you eat with his left hand, nor drink with it, for Satan eats with his left hand and drinks with it." Reported by Muslim.

كراهة الأكل والشرب باليد اليسرى، لأنّه من عادة الشيطان، ومن فعَله فقد تشبه به، يقاس على الأكل والشرب كل عمل كريم، فيسن فيه التيامن ويكره فيه استعمال الشمال، وبالعكس كل فعل خسيس يسن فيه استعمال الشمال يكره استعمال اليمين فيه، والشيطان يعكس ذلك لخسته وقذاراته. بيان آداب الإسلام وكمال توجيهاته، وحرصه على كل شيء يتعلق بمصالح البشرية.
The dislike of eating and drinking with the left hand, because it is a habit of Satan, and whoever does so has imitated him. By analogy to eating and drinking, in every honorable act it is recommended to use the right hand and disliked to use the left; and conversely, in every base act it is recommended to use the left hand and disliked to use the right, for Satan reverses this due to his baseness and filthiness. A statement of the manners of Islam, the perfection of its guidance, and its concern for everything connected with the welfare of mankind.
