عَنْ أبي هُريْرَةَ رضي اللّه عَنْهُ أنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يقُولُ: «مِنْ سمِعَ رَجُلًا ينْشُدُ ضَالَّةً في المسْجِدِ فَلْيَقُلْ: لا رَدهَا اللّه علَيْكَ، فإنَّ المساجدَ لَمْ تُبْنَ لهذا» رَواهُ مُسْلِم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever hears a man announcing a lost item in the mosque, let him say: 'May Allah not restore it to you,' for the mosques were not built for this." Reported by Muslim.

ينشد ضالّة: يطلبها ويسأل عنها. ضالّة: الضائع من كل ما يقتنى من مال أو غير ذلك.
"Announcing a lost item (yanshudu dallah)": seeking it and asking about it. "A lost item (dallah)": something lost, whether property or otherwise, of anything one possesses.

The prohibition of buying, selling, announcing lost items, and other worldly matters in the mosque. The prohibition is one of dislike (karahah) if it does not disturb someone praying, reciting the Qur'an, studying knowledge, or the like; but if any of that occurs, it becomes forbidden (haram).
